Meet the San Francisco Team Behind Thistledown Insulation San Francisco
We’re a small crew by design, because that’s what lets us match the right product to each attic instead of rushing through a checklist. We work in Victorian flats in the Mission, hillside homes in Noe Valley, and new builds in Mission Bay. What unites us is a shared stubbornness about details: the baffle that sits crooked, the knee wall that needs one more look, the cleanup photo before we walk out. Thistledown is the soft fluff of the thistle, one of nature’s lightest insulators. The name is a promise about how carefully we work, and the people below are the ones who keep it.
Our People
Neil Barron, Owner
Neil started with insulation in 2003, the same year Thistledown opened its doors as part of the Cedarwell family of independently owned insulation companies. He’s spent twenty-plus years in attics across San Francisco, from the fog belt in the Sunset to the sun-baked flats in Potrero Hill, and he still goes on site visits most weeks. Neil writes the way he talks on a job site: steady, specific, and unhurried, with the occasional dry observation about what he found behind a wall that he hopes the previous contractor isn’t still in business. His rule for every estimate is simple: the written price comes before any work starts, no exceptions. When he’s not under a roof deck, he’s walking his lab mix around Glen Canyon Park and pretending not to count the insulation gaps in the houses they pass.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us since 2018 and runs point on our spray foam and attic insulation installs across the city. He holds a BPI Building Analyst certification and has a particular knack for finding thermal bypasses, the hidden gaps and chases that let conditioned air pour out of a house. Marcus is the one who will walk you through the difference between an Owens Corning fiberglass batt and a Knauf blown-in product without making you feel like you’re in a lecture hall. He grew up in the Richmond District, so he knows fog moisture and how it behaves in a vented attic. Off the clock, he restores old radios and has strong opinions about which AM stations still play decent jazz.
Elena R., Senior Installer
Elena joined the crew in 2020 after several years in weatherization work in the East Bay. She’s certified in Icynene and Demilec spray foam application, and she’s the reason our tight-space installs look clean: she’s five-four and can work a knee wall or a low-slope attic where most people would knock their head and call it a day. Elena is meticulous about the Cedarwell Care Promise; she name-checks it as C.A.R.E. on every job. Clean up like it is our own home, she’ll tell a new hire. Ask before we move or touch anything. Respect the family’s time and quiet hours. Explain the price before the work. She has two cats, so she’s always the first to point out which insulation products are pet-safe and where a choice exists.
Danny M., Service Coordinator
Danny is the voice on the phone when you call Thistledown Insulation San Francisco, and he’s the one who keeps the schedule running without making anyone feel rushed. He’s been with the team since 2016, and he knows the city’s neighborhoods well enough to plan realistic drive times: the 280 to Glen Park, the slow crawl across 19th Avenue at 4 p.m., the permit parking zones that turn a half-hour job into a parking hunt. Danny coordinates every visit so the crew arrives with the right material, the right truck, and a clear picture of what the family needs. He tracks the 365-Day Done Right Promise cases personally and will call you back to make sure a fix visit got scheduled. Most weekends he’s coaching youth soccer at a rec league in the Excelsior.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this page, and every technician who rides in a Thistledown van, works to the same non-negotiable standards. The written price comes before any work starts, every single time, and it’s never conditional. If the job isn’t done right, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we make it right, no debate and no fine print. We lay drop cloths across your hallway and wear shoe covers from the front door to the attic hatch. We choose pet-safe insulation products where a choice exists, so the dog can be home during the job. We use quiet tools when children are sleeping, and before we leave, we hand you a photo of the cleaned-up work area. That’s not an upsell. It’s included. Across the Cedarwell network, the standard doesn’t change from one city to the next, and it doesn’t change from one job to the next. We install eight brands: Owens Corning, Johns Manville, Knauf, Rockwool, CertainTeed, Icynene, Demilec, and GreenFiber. But the brand we’re most protective of is the one on the truck.
Call (341) 247-0222 to reach a live person 24/7 and talk through your attic insulation or spray foam project. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
